If you have a kid who’s gone to Jewish school, they’ve probably come home with a little whistle Shofar… I decided to make some color & craft templates make this just a tad more fun!
Color & Craft Shofar Templates
I created a few different designs on a few different levels and in a few styles so that kids of all ages and skill levels can enjoy them.
I then took the star design and turned it into a freebie so that everyone can enjoy these shofar craft templates – regardless of budget! The freebie is available for download at the end of this post and the full bundle of shofars can be purchased here.
Kids of all ages can enjoy this. A (age 3.5/almost 4) chose the honey bee design to color. She wanted to cut it out herself. It was fabulous scissors practice for her, with a simple shape that’s a slight deviation from a straight line. I intentionally made the outline a bit bolder to make it easier for preschoolers to cut out.
While it wasn’t perfect, and the base did not quite fit around the whistle, it is fine. This project works fine if you just paste it on each side of the whistle instead of wrapping (you can also add a paper strip to make it easier to wrap).
It was actually very difficult to come up with a design that worked well wrapped around the whistle. The final result is just just and while you can glue it, I recommend taping the whistle portion.
Y (age 8) chose the one that says “Shofar” in English to color. He really sat with it and enjoyed it, coloring in every detail and getting creative with the background.
This Shofar craft template is the perfect way to bring in Rosh Hashanah – or the Jewish New Year – with family, friends, in the classroom, and especially with multiple age groups!
Kids will have fun pretending to blow the Shofar and learning all about the holiday – and our commitment to try to do better next year.
What you need
- Printer paper
- Markers
- Scissors
- Tape and/or glue
- Party whistles (blower part removed)

How to assemble the Shofar craft template
1. Print your desired template(s) on paper – I don’t recommend cardstock for this project as it can be too stiff to wrap around the whistle well.
2. Color both sides of your shofar.
3. Cut them out.
4. Tape the bottom inch or so together. Note: you can glue it too, but the sizing will be a bit tight, so you’ll need to glue only the tippy edge. Slide the whistle in from the inside to the outside.
5. Tape or glue the edges of the rest of the shofar, leaving the top open.
Your shofar craft is complete!
