Enjoy these free printable fuse bead dreidel templates – including a functional spinner and decorative dreidels. If you want to play, make sure to check out my free dreidel rules printable too.
I love a good fuse bead project, and this one is quite cool because it has a functional component!
I did a whole Perler bead jewelry series on my main blog, showing you how you can push the boundaries of using fuse beads (Perler beads is the brand name) and this fuse bead dreidel template continues along those lines.
Two types of fuse bead dreidel templates
The template is arranged so that you can fit all of these projects on a 31 peg diameter hexagonal board. You can do parts of it on a smaller hexagon, but you need the brick-style layout that the hexagon offers.
The functional spinner – plus coins to play!
To make it super easy, the functional dreidel is made spinning-top style rather than in the traditional four-sided dreidel. This is to keep things simple with assembly, and because it spins better.
It’s turned into a spinner simply by sticking a toothpick through the center! Yes, it’ll really spin.
The letters are quite small, so the shin looks like a 3 on its side, but it should work out quite well.
The template also comes with coins for you to play along with. You can make additional coins as well – and you can even simply stick to making the coins for playing with a traditional dreidel.
Flat dreidel sides
The flat dreidels are not meant to be played with. Maybe one day I’ll play around with making a 3D playable fuse bead dreidel template (though it might be awkward to spin), but for now, this is for the look of it.
You can use these on napkin rings, hang them from strings and connect with a stick for a Hanukkah wall hanging, or make them just for fun.
You can even turn them into jewelry.
Assembling the fuse bead dreidels
Supplies needed
- Transparent brick-layout fuse bead board – the template fits a 31 peg diameter hexagon
- 5mm fuse beads
- Iron – I love my travel Steamfast iron for crafts
- Fuse bead ironing paper
- For the spinner: a toothpick
- Recommended: a mini drawstring bag (burlap, organza…) to store your coins in
- The template (download at the end of this post)
Instructions
- Print the template at 100%.
- Place your pegboard over the hexagon to match.
- Place your fuse beads on the board using the template as your guide.
- Place ironing paper over the board, iron.
- Allow it to cool, carefully remove it from the peg board. Flip over, place ironing paper on top, and iron.
- If making the spinner, make sure not to iron it so flat that the holes close. Stick a toothpick through the center of the disc-style top.
