Spin Drum Craft
Learn how to make a spin drum craft for Purim or any time life requires a noisemaker! You can also make a paper Purim Grogger craft if you prefer. This post contains affiliate links.
Every kid knows that one of the funnest parts of Purim is being encouraged to make a lot of NOISE!
Not only do the kids get to dress up and exchange tasty treats, they also get to drown out the evil Haman’s name during the megillah reading. You can extend the anticipation before Purim begins by making this cute spin drum that can be used as a unique and colorful gragger.
There are endless ways to dress this craft up so that your kids can express their artistic flair. Get out the acrylic paints and make a tiny masterpiece. Maybe you can riff on some Purim motifs and paint Queen Esthers crown adding some craft gems for the real royal treatment.
You can add sequins or glitter for a little extra sparkle, (but only if you can tolerate the inevitable glittery fallout finding its way throughout your home. Otherwise opt for glitter glue.)
If you want to make multiple graggers and are interested in a little more variety, you could skip the string and beads. Fill the inside of the drum with a noisy filler like rice or beans to make a shaker style gragger.

How to make a spin drum Gragger:
1: Take your piece of cardboard, a popsicle stick and an empty toilet paper roll for the craft.
Take the tube and trace its circumference on the cardboard sheet twice, to make two circles.
2: Cut out the circles from the cardboard sheet. Next cut out a roughly one inch tall ring from the tube.
3: Use a sharp object to cut a slot on the side of the cardboard tube ring. The slot should be big enough to insert a popsicle stick through it.
4: Insert a popsicle stick through the slot of the tube section. Apply glue to the areas where the popsicle stick and the cardboard tube meet to attach them firmly.
5: Take a long piece of yarn or string and attach a wooden bead to one end of the strand. Tie a knot to secure the bead. Thread a needle on the other end of the strand.
6: Consider the popsicle stick as vertically attached; now draw the needle through the ring horizontally.
7: When you pull the thread through the ring, make sure that the thread that remains on the outside is not longer than the diameter of the roll. Tie the thread that is inside the roll around the popsicle stick.
8: Pull the needle through the other side of the roll. Add a wooden bead to this second side. Make a knot to secure the bead and cut off any extra thread. Try to keep a roughly equal amount of thread on this side as you have on the other side of the roll. If you’d like it to be extra secure, just dab some glue over the knot.
9: Glue your cardboard circles to both sides of the ring to close it.
10: Use colored craft papers or paint to decorate the plain cardboard parts of the spin drum. Embellish as you’d like.
Enjoy using your fun and unique gragger and spin drum craft!
